Initiated a well-established taxi service at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center, which is used by over 12,000 people on a daily basis, launched on 20th February 2024 with the guidance of the Ministry of Transport and Highways.

Ministry of Transport and Highways has given the special attention to the various inconveniences caused to the public due to the informally operated taxi services so far and commenced this taxi service in agreement with 76 members of the “United Three-wheel Union” who were engaged in operating three-wheelers adjacent to the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center. Passengers will have the facility of booking taxi more easyily and in a reliable manner according to their needs through a mobile application and software system set up according to a fixed schedule. Objective of this project is to provide a more friendly and polite service to the public and to provide the necessary facilities for the operation of taxi with proper regulation.

Also, in the special premises reserved for three-wheelers in the MultiModal Transport Center, digital screens are operated 24 hours to disseminate information about the respective three-wheelers and their owners, and information about the three-wheelers to be arrived in order of priority basis.In addition, to three-wheelers, electric bicycle service was also introduced on a rental basiss imultaneously.

Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Bandhula Gunawardena, Secretary to the Ministry, Eng. Ranjith Ganganath Rubasinghe, Chairman of the National Transport Commission, Mr. Shashi Welgama, Project Director of Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center, Mr. Nalaka Dissanayake were chaired the event and a large number of three-wheel operators were participated.
